Further information

Chueca, told by someone who lived it

Chueca was not always the neighbourhood you see today. In the seventies it was a run-down part of the centre, and in thirty years it became the LGBTQ+ heart of Madrid and one of the best places in the city to go out. This walk tells that change where it happened: in its bars.

What we do

  • Four neighbourhood bars, with a tapa and a drink at each. No chains, no guidebook stops: places with a history and locals inside.
  • A local LGBTQ+ guide who talks you through the Movida, the fight for rights, the arrival of Pride and what life here is like now.
  • Time to ask: the group is deliberately small.

Who it is for

Anyone curious about today's Madrid. You do not need to be part of the community: you need to want to listen and to eat well.
